Janelle Monae served up astronomical amounts of electrifying energy at Wondaland, The Eephus Listening Event held at Sayers Club in Los Angeles and hosted by L.A. Reid the evening of Thursday, May 14th.

Accompanied by her Wondaland Records team and very clearly very much like her family, the audience got more than a peak at Janelle’s new music, but also got to hear music by Wondaland/Epic Records artists Jidenna, Roman GianArthur, St. Beauty and Deep Cotton.
This was my first opportunity to catch Ms. Monae and her team live, but I will say this…if you know the difference between a “singer” and a true entertainer (and value the true entertainer), seeing Janelle live at some point is a MUST.
Lead by Queen Janelle, Wondaland‘s energy is no less than contagious. All of the artists have a warm and welcoming aura and leave you wanting to see and hear more. One person in the intimate-sized audience looked over at me during the performance and said, “I want to be friends with them.” And that’s exactly the vibe this family gives off.
This is a tribe not afraid of being in their own lane. The sound they’ve created has a way of being relevant/current, yet fresh at the same time. Hearing each artist back-to-back was like stepping into a new galaxy for those couple of hours, and one I loved being in.
